Igniting Change, Locally: My Next Steps Against Consumerism and War

In my last blog post, we explored the powerful legacy of the Doukhobors and their Burning of Arms on June 29, 1895, as a profound foundation for standing against materialism and war. We talked about using July 12, 2025, as a day to ignite change by focusing on donating, gifting, and fostering community. Today, I want to share my personal commitment and immediate steps to embody these principles right here in my own community.

When I first had my revelations about this deep connection to my ancestry, I felt an overwhelming urge to take on the world, to orchestrate a worldwide protest in just seven days! The energy was immense, the vision clear. However, I've come to realize that a global movement is already happening, fueled by hundreds of organizations and countless individuals around the globe that have built networks that I will focus my enregy on joining with. For the immediate future, my focus is shifting to where I can make the most tangible impact: through personal action and within my local community. This, for me, is about embracing the core principles of my ancestors as the foundation for bigger and bolder events in the future.

My Personal Stand: Donations and Community Building

My donations and pledge to buy nothing on July 12th are my personal stand against the tide of consumerism. I'm excited to be donating to Miscellany Thrift and Vintage at 323 E Broadway, Vancouver, BC V5T 1W5, (https://shopmiscellany.com) and Miscellany Finds at 1029 Commercial Dr, Vancouver, BC V5L 3X1 (https://miscellanyfinds.ca). These aren't just any shops; they are incredible organizations that work with countless charities, empowering individuals to succeed and helping hundreds of marginalized women and youth transition back into society. By choosing to donate items that no longer serve my spiritual or communal needs, I'm not just decluttering; I'm actively redirecting resources to those who can truly benefit, aligning with the Doukhobor value of mutual support and rejecting excessive materialism.

In addition to this, I'm participating in a queer workshop, the Ignite Festival (https://www.ignite-fest.com). This is a very exciting opportunity for me, as I have been longing for a way to connect with like-minded, energetically charged individuals who are doing the work to better themselves and the community in which we all live. This workshop will help me build my community and deepen my connection to myself, my spirituality, and the vibrant queer community. It's an act of building, of strengthening the bonds that resist negativity and foster love, much like the communal spirit of the Doukhobors.

The Power of Accumulated Shift

My initial desire for a massive, immediate worldwide protest was powerful, but true, lasting change often begins with focused, intentional steps. I believe that by focusing on my personal impact and local community, I am contributing to the larger wave of transformation that is already underway globally.

I challenge you to make even small steps like this in your own community. Whether it's donating items, choosing a day of no spending, organizing a potluck, or engaging in local initiatives that foster peace and connection – every action counts. As we all do our part, the accumulated shift in global energy and awareness will rise and bring us all closer together.

We are all connected. By resisting negativity, war, and materialism, we will change the world we live in. BE COMPASSIONATE TO ALL AND LIVE YOUR LIFE THROUGH LOVE.
